The Mask Museum in Ambalagoda was donated by the Republic of Germany on the 2nd of April 1987. This museum has been instrumental in showcasing the splendor and charm of Sri Lanka's traditional mask art as well as its cultural heritage. The contribution made by the Ambalangoda Museum to the mask tradition is immense. The most valuable places here,
1. The place where the mask is cut2. Showroom related to those arts
3. Information Center for Traditional Art
The Karawa people living in the southern and western coastal areas of Sri Lanka have a wide range of customs associated with these activities. The city of Ambalangoda can be identified as a very famous place for rituals and religious ceremonies performed on various important occasions and especially for the Kolam drama tradition. Kolam Madhu and Thovila, which are held to drive away demons, can also be identified as the main elements here. This is an art that has been around for centuries. It is universally accepted that it is a very valuable art.
In this way, the service rendered by the Ambalangoda Museum to protect the mask art by recognizing it as a very valuable traditional industry and art is immense.
